FIRST Team 1646. Building robots, developing leaders, and inspiring our community through STEM since 2005.
We provide memorable experiences with STEM for our team and the people we impact through outreach. We believe our students can change the future of technology.
We demonstrate our robots and design process at local events, inspiring young people to engage in the same ideals as our team and FIRST. Every school where we've done a STEM Night now has an FLL team.
We use STEM to further our students' success and encourage them to solve global issues. No one person can change the world — FIRST helps students work as a team so they can.
Our team's visual identity and brand presentation earned recognition on the world stage at the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas.
Recognized for our commitment to spreading STEM awareness throughout Greater Lafayette. This award qualified the team for the World Championship in Houston.
Designed and built by students during the six-week build season. The robot independently qualified to compete at the Indiana State Championship.
Recognized for demonstrating a carefully developed and carefully executed business plan that builds sustainability for the team beyond just the current season.
Our first event of the season set the tone — earning the Engineering Inspiration Award for our efforts in STEM advocacy and community outreach.
This year we launched 8 new FIRST LEGO League Explore teams across 4 elementary schools, bringing 54 students in grades 2–4 into the Broncho Robotics pipeline. We invested over $20,000 in LEGO and SPIKE kits, with 37% of our FRC students serving as mentors.
We bring FRC robots, FTC-scale robots, and hands-on STEAM activities to school STEM nights across the corporation. Activities range from block programming and circuit building to Sphero racing and banana pianos. Every school where we've presented a STEM Night now has an FLL team.
We have a long-standing partnership with Lafayette's local science museum, where we take over the main floor for full-day STEAM demonstrations. Visitors — typically ages 3 to 10 — explore our robots, race Spheros, and build creative devices. It's a 15+ year partnership reaching about 300 people per event.
Since 2019, our schools have hosted 3 FLL, 1 FTC, and 5 FRC official competitions. Our students and coaches serve on planning committees, manage logistics, and this year are hosting the FLLE festival alongside our FRC district event.
